Tulipa urumiensis - tardy tulip by Diana Everett

Tulipa urumiensis is a dwarf tulip native to Central Asia. Flowering in early spring, it is a symbol of renewal, resilience, and the changing seasons. Tulips have long held deep cultural significance, particularly in Persian and Ottoman tradi-tions, where they were seen as emblems of love, abundance, and paradise. In folklore, tulips are often linked to love and devotion. A Persian legend tells of a prince whose love was unfulfilled, and from each drop of his tears, a tulip sprang forth - forever tying the flower to passion and longing.

Chelsea Physic Garden has been a centre of medicinal plant knowledge for over 350 years. Established in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London, it is one of the oldest botanic gardens in Britain. Its living collection includes species from across the globe, many with histories deeply rooted in medicinal and cultural practice. Today, the Garden continues to inspire learning, offering a space for people to connect with nature and explore the essential role plants play in our health, culture, and survival.
