Banksia integrifolia - coast banksia by Liz Sherras Clark
For Indigenous Australian communities, banksias have long been valued for both practical and cultural purposes. The nectar-laden flowers were traditionally used as a natural sweetener, either soaked in water to create a refreshing drink or enjoyed directly. Some communities also used banksia cones as smouldering fire-starters or to carry embers between camps.
